L'oreal

Optimizing Product Concepts and Packaging via a Quant Study and Xomad-Moderated Panels

Insights & Innovation

THE CHALLENGE

As a new portfolio brand for L'Oreal, the Thayers team wanted a consumer and trendsetter market assessment of the brand and of the ingredient Witch Hazel, as well as to test new product concepts/star ingredients in order to properly prioritize development and marketing efforts/strategies.

Our approach

  • Quantitative Nationwide Creator Questionnaires

Based on the goals set by the L’oreal/Thayers team, XOMAD created a quantitative survey to understand the brand's perception and evaluate 5 product line concepts. The concept evaluation goals were to understand the product's overall performance and identify any opportunities for improvement/expansion. The data, from over 100 trendsetters, was then compared to a partner group's insights from consumers.

  • Trendsetter Pre-Panels for Brainstorming Creatives

From phase 1, XOMAD identified a diverse segment of thoughtful, insightful and innovative creators to move on to phase 2. Creators were then tasked to create mock instagram posts, based on their favorite concept, in order to bring to life how they imagined the product marketed. This exercise was used as an ice breaker for the panels, and allowed the brand to start to imagine the social media potential for the product concepts.

  • XOMAD Moderated Influencer Panels and Consumer Panels

During the last phase of the project, XOMAD planned and moderated two creator and four consumer panels. These panels built on the quantitative learnings in order to glean insights into ways to optimize the various ideas, to maximize future product potential and to explore new packaging designs. The creators also provided their expertise on how to best relate with Gen Z, and evaluated the marketing concepts based on the likelihood of trending on social media. XOMAD analyzed the findings for both the influencer and consumer panels.

Thayers was able to gain valuable insights from the creators that helped them prioritize development and marketing efforts.
